Notes from the deicing market.

Short, practical notes on buying, storing and spreading rock salt — written for the people who actually have to clear a road.

Using rock salt of sodium chloride as road deicing

Deicing of roads has always been done with salt of sodium chloride as a rock salt, spread by special equipment designed and manufactured for the purpose. Pure deicing salt is the excellent solution to clear highways and private properties.

Our product has the right proportion of both fine and coarse grain, with diameters ranging from 1 mm to 12.5 mm. Deicing salt is available in bulk loads, as well as for large surface areas and industrial applications.

Buying deicing road salt

Winter time and snowfall increase stocking up of rock salt. You should know that there are a range of different types of deicers and qualities on the international market.

When buying deicing road salt, choose the high purity and the right grain size. If you have decided on a fine grain, the deicer will work faster, but it also loses its efficiency quicker. A coarse grain takes more time to take effect, but once it does it will continue to remain active for longer.

Rock salt moisture content

At low moisture content, rock salt can be stored well and is ready to be used at any time. Always check if an anticaking agent has been added to the salt to prevent it from caking and crusting.

If the moisture content is too high, the anticaking agent will not be able to prevent the salt from becoming a conglomeration.
